Why mulching suits mountain ground
On a slope, the fastest way to start an erosion problem is to strip the ground bare. Forestry mulching clears the growth without pulling up the soil with it: the machine grinds brush and small trees into a mat of mulch that stays on the surface, slows the water and keeps the dirt where it is.

What it is good for
Opening up an overgrown lot, reclaiming a view, clearing a fence line or a trail, knocking back briars and invasive growth, or thinning under hardwoods so the good trees get the light. It is also how right-of-way and utility corridors get cleared without a pile of brush left behind.
When mulching is not the answer
Mulching does not remove stumps below the surface or large timber, and a building site usually needs more than a mulched surface. A pad or a drive needs more: see land clearing in Asheville and grading. Ben will say which one your ground needs.

What happens to the mulch?
It stays on the ground as a layer that protects the soil and breaks down over time. Nothing is burned and nothing is hauled.
Can forestry mulching handle steep ground?
Within reason, yes — and steep ground is where leaving the surface covered matters most. Very steep or rocky slopes are looked at on site before anything is promised.
Is forestry mulching the same as land clearing?
Mulching is one way to clear. It is the right way for brush, briars and small trees. Big timber, stumps and a site that needs to be built on usually need clearing and grading as well.
