Land clearing in Weaverville, NC

Land clearing around Weaverville

Weaverville sits in northern Buncombe County, about nine miles north of Asheville. The town sits along Dry Ridge. From there the ground drops into creek bottoms and climbs again into wooded hillsides. Reems Creek runs through town beside Lake Louise Park, and I-26 runs along the western edge.

Past the town limits the lots get bigger and steeper. A lot of them are wooded acreage reached by a long drive. That is where most of our Weaverville calls come from. Someone has bought land and cannot see the building site through the trees. Or the back acres of a family place have filled in with saplings, briars and vines.

Our yard is in Leicester, about 15 miles away, so Weaverville is a regular run for the crew. Ben comes out, walks the property with you and prices the job on the ground. The main land clearing page covers how we work across the area. The Weaverville service page lists everything else we do in town.

Local know-how

Land clearing in Weaverville: what to know

Land clearing in Weaverville ahead of a new home

Most clearing in Weaverville happens before a build. The work follows the plan. We open the house site, the drive, the septic area and enough room for the grading to happen. Everything outside that line stays standing. Walk the lot with Ben, point out the hardwoods you want kept, and they get flagged before a saw starts.

On a build site the stumps come out. A stump left under a pad rots and the ground settles with it. Brush and small trees can be ground up by forestry mulching, or loaded and hauled when the site needs to be bare dirt. Once the lot is open, the same crew can cut the pad and shape the slope, so you are not waiting on a second contractor.

Town limits or county: who to ask about permits

Weaverville is an incorporated town with its own planning department, and the town planner handles zoning permits inside the limits. If your land is in town, call Town Hall before a big job. Erosion control is run by the county. Buncombe County's erosion control division covers the whole county outside the City of Asheville, and that includes Weaverville.

The county's erosion control page says a permit is needed once land disturbance reaches one acre. Lots in a hillside subdivision need one at a quarter acre. Below those sizes, the county still expects the mud to stay on your property. If your job looks close to either line, Ben will say so at the estimate.

Keeping a cleared Weaverville hillside in place

The hills around Weaverville shed water quickly once the cover is gone. Bare red clay on a slope can end up in the road ditch after one hard storm. So we plan the clearing around where the water goes next. Silt fence goes in where the ground falls toward a ditch or a creek. Cleared ground gets graded, seeded or covered instead of being left open for weeks.

Land that runs down to Reems Creek or one of its branches needs more care near the bank, and sometimes a permit. Bring it up at the estimate. To see what pushes the price up or down before you call, read what moves the cost of land clearing in Western NC.

Do you clear land in Weaverville, NC?

Yes. Weaverville is about 15 miles from our yard in Leicester and part of our regular service area. We clear homesites, drive corridors, grown-up fields and wooded acreage in town and out in the county around it.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Weaverville?

Inside the town limits, start with the Town of Weaverville planning office for zoning. For erosion control, Buncombe County requires a permit at one acre of disturbance, or a quarter acre in a hillside subdivision. Smaller jobs still have to keep sediment on the site.

Can you clear a Weaverville lot and leave the big hardwoods standing?

Yes. Point out the trees you want to keep when Ben walks the lot. They are flagged first and the machines work around them.

What should I send to get a Weaverville clearing estimate?

The road you are on, roughly how much ground needs clearing, what it is being cleared for and a few photos. Call (828) 900-1749 or use the form. Ben sets a time to walk it, and you get a price before any work starts.
