Land Clearing in Leicester
Land clearing in Leicester starts close to home
Hazy River Earthworks is based in Leicester, in Buncombe County northwest of Asheville. That matters for clearing. The machines do not cross the county to reach you, and Ben can walk your ground without making a day of it. The main land clearing page covers the service across the area. This page is about Leicester.

The ground here
Leicester is farm country that runs into mountains. The valleys along the Sandy Mush and Newfound roads and around Turkey Creek hold pasture, hay fields and old home places. Above them the ground turns steep and wooded fast. So clearing here is usually one of three jobs. A field or fence line that has grown back in briars, scrub and saplings. A wooded hillside lot being opened for a house. Or the corridor for a drive that has to climb from the valley road to the building site.
Pasture and fence lines that have grown back
Leave a field alone for a few seasons and it stops being a field. This kind of growth is brush clearing work, and most of it is ground in place by forestry mulching. The mulch stays on the soil. Nothing is burned and nothing is hauled. The ground is left ready to mow, seed or fence.
Wooded lots and homesites
A lot that is going to be built on needs more than mulching. Trees come down, stumps and root balls are pulled, and the debris is hauled or mulched. The work follows the layout, so the house site, the drive corridor and the septic area are opened and the rest of the woods is left alone. Walk the lot with Ben first and point out the trees that stay. They get marked before anything is cut.
Slopes, creeks and Buncombe County rules
Leicester is not a town with its own permit office. It is an unincorporated part of Buncombe County, so the county is who to ask. Small clearing on a private lot often needs nothing. Disturbing a larger area, working on steep ground or working near a creek can bring in the county's erosion and sedimentation rules. Check with Buncombe County before a big clearing job starts. Ben will tell you at the estimate if yours looks like one that needs a permit.
Thinking of a burn pile?
Burning brush from land clearing is regulated in Buncombe County. If you were planning a burn pile, check with the Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency first. Mulching the brush where it stands, or hauling it off, avoids the question.
After the clearing
A cleared slope should not sit bare through a mountain rain. The same crew does the grading and site prep and the erosion control, so cleared ground can go straight into the next step. If the lot needs a drive, see gravel driveways in Leicester.

Do you clear land in Leicester, NC?
Yes. Hazy River Earthworks is based in Leicester, and clearing is some of the most common work close to home.
Do I need a permit to clear land in Leicester?
Leicester is unincorporated, so Buncombe County is the office to ask. Small clearing on a private lot often needs nothing. Larger areas, steep slopes and work near streams can trigger erosion and sedimentation rules. Check with the county before a big job starts.
Can you clear an old pasture without hauling everything off?
Yes. Brush, briars and small trees are ground in place by forestry mulching, and the mulch stays on the ground to protect the soil. Big timber and stumps need pulling.
How much does land clearing cost in Leicester?
It depends on how thick the growth is, the size of the trees, the slope, how the machine gets in, and whether the material is mulched or hauled. The estimate is free and done on the ground.
How do I get an estimate?
Call (828) 900-1749 or send the form with the road you are on, what needs clearing and photos if you have them. Ben comes out, walks the ground with you and gives you a price before any work starts.

“Ben did an amazing job on our hurricane-ravaged road! Smooth, clean, and done right.”
“Super fast, great communication, and the driveway has never looked better.”
Forestry Mulching
Brush, briars, scrub and small trees ground up where they stand, with the mulch left on the ground to hold the soil.
ViewServiceGrading & Site Prep
Pads cut level, slopes shaped, and ground graded so the water leaves the site instead of running through the house.
ViewServiceDriveway Installation & Repair
New gravel drives cut in and worn ones rebuilt, graded and crowned so the rain runs off instead of down the middle.
ViewServiceExcavation
Foundations, trenches, utility lines, root balls and rock — dug to the right depth and backfilled so the ground settles once.
ViewServiceErosion Control
Slopes stabilised, banks armoured and water redirected so the next heavy rain does not take the yard, the drive or the creek bank with it.
ViewServiceRetaining Walls
Block retaining walls built on a real base, with drain pipe and stone behind them, so the slope they hold stays held.
ViewServiceDemolition
Structures torn down, debris loaded and hauled, and the site left clear and graded instead of a pile of rubble.
ViewServiceSeptic Installation
Tank holes, drain field lines and the grading around them, dug to the plan so the system sits right and drains the way it should.
ViewServiceHauling
