Creek & River Bank Repair

What bank repair is

A creek or river bank fails when high water cuts into it. The edge goes first, then the yard or the drive behind it. Bank repair means rebuilding that edge. Rock is placed to rebuild the bank and protect the ground behind it. Stream bank work after flooding is some of the most recent work Hazy River Earthworks has done. The photos on this page are from those jobs.

What it includes

What the job covers

  • Creek bank repair
  • River bank repair
  • Rock placed to rebuild banks
  • Flood and storm damage
  • Debris cleared and hauled
  • Regrading behind the bank

After Hurricane Helene

Hurricane Helene showed what happens to banks, drives and slopes in Western North Carolina when water finds a path. Damaged creek banks have been a big part of the work since the storm, along with washed-out drives and private roads, slides and debris clean-up. If the storm changed your creek, call and have it looked at before the next heavy rain.

How the work runs

It starts with a free estimate. Ben comes out, walks the bank with you and looks at where the water is cutting in. You get a price before any work starts. On the job, downed trees, washed-in debris and flood-deposited material are cleared and hauled. Then the bank is rebuilt with rock and the ground behind it is regraded.

Rock in, debris out

Bank work means moving material both ways. Rock for the bank is brought in and placed where it is needed, not dumped in a pile. Brush, stumps and debris are loaded and taken away. Hauling is priced into the estimate, so the site is clear when the job is done.

More than the bank

Sometimes the bank is only part of the problem. Runoff from a slope above, or a drive that sends water toward the creek, can keep washing the same spot. The same crew does erosion control, slope stabilization, stormwater and runoff work and drainage. That way the bank and the ground around it are planned together.

Permits near streams

Work in or near a stream can need a permit. That is raised at the estimate, before anything starts. Who obtains the permit is agreed before the job begins.

Where this work is done

Hazy River Earthworks is based in Leicester. River and creek bank repair is typical work in Marshall and the rest of Madison County, just north of Leicester. Storm repair near the river is also common in Woodfin, along the French Broad. The crew works in Asheville and the surrounding towns most weeks, and across Western North Carolina for larger jobs.

Who it is for

Most of this work is for homeowners and property owners with a creek or river on their land. A bank that is cutting toward a house, a drive or a private road is the usual reason for the call. Send the town, what happened and photos if you have them, and Ben will call you back.
