Site prep on mountain lots
Building on a slope starts with the dirt. The site is cleared, topsoil is stripped, the pad is cut and filled to grade and compacted, and the ground around it is shaped so the water has somewhere to go. Get that wrong and it shows up later as a wet crawlspace, a cracked slab or a slope that slides.

Grading is about water
A yard that ponds, a drive that washes out, water running toward the foundation — those are all grade problems. Fixing them means reshaping the ground so it sheds water on its own, often with a swale, a ditch or a drain to carry it off.
Rough grade and final grade
Rough grade gets the shape and fall right. Final grade is the finishing pass that makes the ground ready to seed, sod or pour. Which one your job needs is set out in the estimate.

Can you fix water running toward my house?
Usually, yes. Most of the time it is a grade problem, and the fix is reshaping the ground and adding a swale or drain so the water goes around the house instead of into it.
Do you build pads for sheds, garages and shops?
Yes. Pads are cut or filled to level, compacted and finished with stone so the building sits on solid ground.
What is the difference between site prep and excavation?
Excavation is digging. Site prep is the whole sequence that gets a lot ready for a build: clearing, stripping, cutting, filling, compacting and grading.
